Early Life and Vocation
Catherine de' Ricci was born on April 2, 1566, into a noble family in Florence, Italy. From a young age, she exhibited a deep piety and desire for God. At the age of nine, she made a private vow of chastity, dedicating herself entirely to Christ.
Entrance into Carmel
In 1582, Catherine entered the Carmelite monastery of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Florence, where she took the name Mary Magdalene of Pazzi. Within the cloister, she embraced a life of prayer, penance, and contemplation, seeking to draw closer to God through the Carmelite way of life.
