Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today, we reflect on the story from Luke 2:41-51, a pivotal moment in the early life of Jesus. At just twelve years old, Jesus stays behind in the temple in Jerusalem, engaging with the teachers and astonishing them with His understanding. His parents, Mary and Joseph, search anxiously for Him, only to find Him three days later in the temple courts. This passage offers profound insights into Jesus' identity and mission and valuable lessons for our spiritual journey.
First, we see the devotion of Jesus' family. Every year, they traveled to Jerusalem for the Passover festival, demonstrating their faithfulness and dedication to their religious practices. This commitment serves as a reminder to us all. Regular worship, prayer, and engagement with our faith community are essential practices that nurture our relationship with God. They ground us, offer us strength, and keep us aligned with God’s will.
Second, Jesus' awareness of His divine mission, even at a young age, is striking. The pastor smiled warmly and replied, "Jesus stayed because He was deeply engaged in learning and discussing God's word. He felt a strong connection to His Father in heaven and wanted to understand His mission."
