Children of God: Humility and Divine Guidance
The Gospel gives us insight into Jesus' thoughts as he prayed. He said, "Father, Lord of heaven and earth, I praise you; you have revealed things to the humble that the wise cannot understand."
This understanding is something children grasp and learn from Jesus, the Father's Son. As God's Son, Jesus only knows what the Father reveals to him, and he shares this revelation with other "children" who come to God through faith. What is this mystery known to children, especially to Jesus, the beloved Son? It is recognizing ourselves as children of God, completely dependent and open to receiving life from Him.
Good parents lovingly guide and discipline their children. According to Isaiah, Assyria was used by God to punish and correct Israel for their wrongdoing, aiming to restore them to a just and moral life. However, when Assyria boasts, "I did this by my own power," and goes against God's plans, it will be cast aside. Isaiah asks, "Can a tool boast over the one who uses it? Can a rod lift up the one who is not controlling it?" The lesson is to stay humble and open to God's guidance. This way, we can achieve positive and life-giving outcomes, as seen in the actions of Moses, Isaiah, and Jesus.

Humility in Learning from Jesus

It's not the religious experts or teachers of the Jewish Law who truly understand God through Jesus. Instead, it's those who may not have much religious knowledge but are open to Jesus' teachings. Those who think they already know everything are closed to learning from Jesus, while those who realize they have much to learn are open to God's revelation through His Son. The gospel reminds us that those who recognize their own weaknesses and neediness before God are most receptive to whatever God wants to teach us through Jesus.
