Early Life: Justin was born around the year 100 AD in Flavia Neapolis (modern-day Nablus, West Bank), which was then part of Roman Syria. He was born into a pagan family and received a Greek education.
Conversion to Christianity: Justin's conversion to Christianity came after a profound philosophical search for truth. He studied various philosophical schools, including Stoicism, Aristotelianism, Pythagoreanism, and Platonism. His encounter with an elderly Christian man who shared the Gospel with him led Justin to embrace Christianity.
Apologist and Writer: Justin became one of the earliest Christian apologists, defending the faith against accusations and misconceptions from both Jews and pagans. He wrote several works, including two Apologies (defenses of Christianity) addressed to the Roman emperors and the Senate. In these writings, Justin presented reasoned arguments for the truth of Christianity and its compatibility with reason and philosophy.
Dialogue with Trypho: One of Justin's most famous works is his Dialogue with Trypho, a Jewish philosopher. In this dialogue, Justin engages in a conversation with Trypho about the nature of Judaism, Christianity, and the relationship between the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Martyrdom: Justin openly professed his Christian faith, even in the face of persecution. In 165 AD, during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, Justin was arrested along with several other Christians and brought before the Roman prefect. When Justin refused to sacrifice to the Roman gods, he was scourged and beheaded, thus earning the title of martyr.
