π️ "Tested but Not Abandoned — The Courage of the Faithful"
π Reflection
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today we stand at the very edge of Holy Week. The readings carry a tone of mounting pressure, of hostility closing in — and yet, in the center of it all, a deep, unshakeable confidence in God.
Jeremiah in the First Reading is at his lowest. He hears whispers all around him — "Denounce him! Let us denounce him!" His former friends have turned against him. He is threatened on every side. And yet listen to how he responds: "But the Lord is with me, like a mighty champion." Not in spite of his suffering — but through it — Jeremiah discovers that God is closer than ever.
There is a Lenten truth here that is easy to miss: the moments when God seems most absent are often the moments when He is nearest. The darkness before the dawn is still the Father's darkness. The silence before the Resurrection is still the Father's silence.
In the Gospel, the Jews pick up stones to throw at Jesus again. And Jesus, with remarkable calm, simply asks: "I have shown you many good works from the Father — for which of these are you stoning Me?" He does not flee in panic. He does not abandon His mission. He speaks the truth, calmly, clearly, and trusts the outcome entirely to the Father.
This is a model of holy courage for each of us. When we are mocked for our faith, when we are pressured to compromise our values, when the world picks up its metaphorical stones — may we have the serenity of Christ, who knew exactly who He was and in whom He trusted.
Today is a Friday of abstinence. Let your small sacrifice be united to the coming Passion of Christ. Let it be a prayer: "Lord, I offer this with You, for love of You — and I trust You, even in the dark."
π‘ One Simple Message for Today When you are tested and threatened, remember: "The Lord is with me, like a mighty champion." He does not abandon those who trust in Him.
π A Prayer for Today
Lord Jesus, You faced hostility with serene courage because You trusted the Father completely. When I face ridicule, misunderstanding, or pressure because of my faith, keep me steady. Let me know, as Jeremiah knew, that You are with me like a mighty champion — and that nothing in this world can separate me from Your love. Amen.
πΏ Lenten Practice for Today
Observe today's abstinence from meat with awareness and intention. At your mealtime, take a quiet moment to unite your small sacrifice with the sufferings of Christ. Offer it for someone who is in their own dark hour today — the persecuted, the suffering, those whose faith is being tested.
May the Lord bless you and keep you close to His Sacred Heart this holy season. π️
