πŸ•Š️ "Hosanna! — The King Who Comes to Serve"

πŸ“œ Reflection

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Holy Week has begun. We stand at the threshold of the most sacred days in the entire Christian year. Today the Church does something extraordinary in the liturgy — we begin with triumph and end in agony. We wave palms and sing Hosanna, and then we sit and listen to the entire Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The contrast is intentional — and deeply human. How quickly the crowd moves from "Hosanna in the highest!" to "Crucify him!" Not because the crowd was uniquely wicked, but because this is what enthusiasm without deep faith looks like. They wanted a king who would conquer Rome. They got a King who would conquer death. They wanted a crown of gold. He chose a crown of thorns.

Isaiah's suffering servant in the First Reading gives us the interior life of Jesus as He enters this week: "I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who plucked my beard. I did not shield my face from buffets and spitting." This is not weakness. This is the most extraordinary act of obedient love in human history. He could have stopped it all with a word — and He did not.

St. Paul's Letter to the Philippians gives us the great hymn of Christ's self-emptying — perhaps the most beautiful summary of the mystery of the Incarnation ever written. Jesus, who was in the form of God, did not cling to that equality, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant. He humbled Himself even to death on a cross. And therefore God exalted Him, giving Him the name above every other name.

This is the pattern of Christian life: the way up is down. The way to glory is through the cross. Not suffering for its own sake, but suffering embraced in love, for love, with love.

This is the most important week of the year. Jesus lived, suffered, died, and rose again so that you and I might live forever. Do not let this week pass like any other. Walk with Him to Calvary. You will not be the same when you come out the other side.

πŸ’‘ One Simple Message for Today The same crowd that shouted Hosanna cried Crucify. This week, choose with your whole life — not just your lips — to stay with Jesus all the way to the Cross.

πŸ™ A Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus, I wave my palms today as a pledge — not just of enthusiasm, but of faithfulness. I want to follow You this Holy Week not as a spectator but as a disciple. When the road gets hard and the crowd turns away, keep me close to You. Let me stand with Mary at the foot of Your Cross, and let me be among those who run to the empty tomb on Easter morning. Amen.

🌿 Lenten Practice for Today

Attend Mass today with deep attention to the Passion reading. When the congregation speaks the lines of the crowd — "Crucify him!" — let it be a moment of honest self-examination. Ask quietly: "In what ways have I chosen the world over Jesus this Lent?" Let it lead you to sincere repentance and a renewed resolve to walk with Him this week.

May the Lord bless you and keep you close to His Sacred Heart this holy season. πŸ•Š️
