⛪ Blessed William Vives

Blessed William Vives,
Pray for us!
⛪ Saint of the Day: January 3

⛪ Died:
• Early 15 century of natural causes • Buried at the monastery in Barcelona, Spain

Mercedarian friar at Barcelona, Spain. Prior of his house. At one point he became involved in political maneuvers involving both Church and State authorities; it led to civil protection and benefits to the convent.

He was a peaceful and very humble man. He had to face the abusive and without reasoning intrusion of the bishop to visit his monastery. In 1401 he had to send the priest Bartolomeo CelforΓ©s, as an informant in Rome, and spend a large amount of 3,000 gold florins, to give a solution to the question. Following this, King Martin V placed the community with his friars and their property under the protection of the Crown of Aragon. Blessed William wrote the life of St. Peter Nolasco and that of Santa Maria de Cervellon, which was then included in the process of canonization of the Saints. He was buried in his monastery after his death.  The Order celebrates it on January 3rd.
