Irish Catholic Martyrs


The term "Irish Martyrs" refers to a group of Catholics who were executed for their faith in Ireland during the 16th and 17th centuries, a period marked by intense religious persecution under English rule. These individuals were steadfast in their commitment to the Catholic faith despite facing severe persecution, torture, and death. In 1992, Pope John Paul II beatified a group of these martyrs.

Background: During the Protestant Reformation and the subsequent English Reformation, the Catholic Church in Ireland faced severe suppression.
