Blessed StanisΕaw Kostka Starowieyski was a notable figure in Polish history, remembered for his military service, social and charitable work, and deep religious commitment.
Early Life and Education: Born on May 11, 1895, in Ustrobna, Austria-Hungary, StanisΕaw was the third child of StanisΕaw Jan and Amelia nΓ©e ΕubieΕska1. He grew up in the family estate of BratkΓ³wka and received his early education from tutors at home in Krosno. Later, he studied at the βC.K. Gimnazjumβ in Sanok and the Jesuit College in Khyriv, where he completed his education in 1914.
Military Career: His military service began with the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I. After the war, he returned to the newly independent Poland and joined the Polish Army. As a second lieutenant, he participated in the Polish-Ukrainian War and the Polish-Soviet War, serving as a battery commander.
Social and Charitable Work: After his military career, StanisΕaw studied agriculture and managed a large farm in Poland. He and his wife, Maria Theresa, were known for their daily religious devotion and their focus on helping the less fortunate. He cared for orphans and the poor, supported the Marian Congregation, Catholic Action, and studied Catholic Social doctrine, implementing better working conditions for agricultural workers.
Papal Recognition and Martyrdom: His contributions to society and the church earned him the position of a papal chamberlain by Pope Pius XI. However, during World War II, he was arrested by the Nazis and sent to Dachau concentration camp for being a Catholic leader. He was martyred there on April 13, 1941.
Beatification: In recognition of his faith and sacrifice, StanisΕaw Kostka Starowieyski was beatified on June 13, 1999, by Saint Pope John Paul II.
