Early Life and Vocation:
Domingo Henares de Zafra Cubero was born on September 11, 1765, in Spain. He entered the Dominican Order at a young age and was ordained a priest. He later felt called to missionary work and volunteered to serve in the Philippines, which was then a Spanish colony.

Missionary Work in the Philippines:
Father Domingo Henares arrived in the Philippines in 1795 and dedicated himself to evangelization and pastoral care among the local population. He was known for his zeal, piety, and commitment to serving the people of the Philippines, particularly those in remote and impoverished areas.

Martyrdom:
In 1833, during a time of political unrest and anti-Christian sentiment in the Philippines, Father Domingo Henares was falsely accused of inciting rebellion and conspiring against the government. Despite his innocence, he was arrested and subjected to a sham trial.

Death:
On August 15, 1838, Father Domingo Henares was executed by hanging in Nagasaki, Japan. His martyrdom was a result of his refusal to renounce his faith or compromise his principles, even in the face of persecution and death.

Canonization:
Father Domingo Henares was beatified by Pope John Paul II on February 14, 1981, along with other martyrs of the Philippines. He was later canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II on October 18, 1987, during his visit to the Philippines. Saint Domingo Henares de Zafra Cubero is venerated as a martyr for the Christian faith and is remembered for his courage, devotion, and selflessness in serving God and his people.
